What is CBT?

Exploring and understanding your problems can be incredibly beneficial for your personal growth and development. Cognitive behavioural therapy offers you valuable tools for understanding your thought patterns and their impact on your  emotions, physiological responses and behaviour.
By recognising these patterns, you can start to reshape the  behaviours that are getting in your way. CBT allows you to manage yourself more effectively in reaching your potential. Its a journey of self-discovery and positive change. Click the video and button below for further information.

What can CBT help with?

Who attends CBT therapy?

Life can be a joy, but at times we all face challenges and problems that seem overwhelming. They just seem difficult to manage or change. Many find their life a struggle. You may have travelled your life with a sense of emptiness or self-critical thoughts, "I am not good enough", even though you are successful. You may feel that your life is hollow or empty.
You may have experienced a recent traumatic incident, leading to distress, anxiety and fear. You may struggle with  trauma experienced in childhood and adolescence, which continues to have a huge influence on the way you consider yourself, others and the world in general.   Repeated rituals and checking behaviours may hold you back. Experiencing obsessive compulsive behaviour is quite simply dominating your life. Or you may just need to "off load" your emotions. In truth, these examples offer a small insight into why you may seek CBT. The vast majority of people want to make sense of their own experience and make sustained change and recovery.

What about other therapies?

As a CBT therapist, mental health nurse and now EMDR therapist in training I am able to take a broader view of your problems. Medication is often prescribed and I may ask you about this, its effectiveness and any side effects.
As a CBT therapist  I am able to call on a number of approaches to help you, these may include elements of compassion focused therapy, schema therapy and mindfulness. I will be able to offer you EMDR whilst in training. As an accredited therapist the need for ongoing professional development is essential and this constantly opens up opportunities to learn new approaches and skills.
